Wouldn’t you love to become proficient in making your own BBQ rub versus using a pre-packaged rub? A homemade rub is something you will not only find to be fresher, but ultimately something you will be proud of. Being able to fine tune your BBQ rub will allow you to tinker around with different spices to get the optimal dry rub.
When it comes to starting out with a rub, you’re going to want to ensure you have a good sugar base. Refined sugar and brown sugar are used most commonly to get this base. Making sure you keep your spices fresh is highly important if you want the best results; we recommend putting dates on your spices so you know how old they are. When mixing together your own spices, it is imperative to perform taste tests prior to applying the rub to your BBQ. After some time, you will be able to create rubs intended for spicy results, or sweeter results. You can make any rub you want. Below is a rub provided by Weber® which can be used on both poultry and beef:
¼ cup light brown sugar
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon granulated garlic
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon cumin
