Backyard's Interactive Grilling Event | April 2015

Backyard, the region’s first specialized outdoor living store, along with True Aussie Beef & Lamb, and Weber, held an interactive grilling competition at the Carlton Al Moaibed Hotel Courtyard. The results were nothing short of amazing. Chef Tarek Ibrahim, the first Arab chef to be nominated and receive the coveted status of Master Chef from the World Association of Chef Societies was present. It is safe to say that everyone in attendance had an excellent evening.

The evening started off with Chef Ibrahim communicating different techniques in grilling steaks to everyone in attendance. Then, the fun began. The competition was set up with 4 teams, with each team consisting of 4 people. Each team set about to compete against one another in grilling the best steak and vegetables. The unique part of the competition was that each team was supplied with a separate grilling station composing of a charcoal grill and gas grill along with all needed tools (knives, cutting boards, etc.).

What made the event even more interesting was introducing a mystery basket into the cooking competition. It was from here where the contestants could pull mystery contents to aide them in their grilling. It was essentially a live version of Top Chef. After one hour, each team was required to submit their finest plate for taste testing by Chef Ibrahim. The Chef was very helpful and informative when stating what could have or should have been done to make the steak or veggies tastier. The winner and the runner up were presented with very generous prizes.

It was a truly special evening and we would like to thank Weber and all those who made the evening possible. Look out for future events that Backyard Middle East is putting together in the very near future. As always, if you ever want to get in touch with us, simply call us at +966 13 845 6798.
